Alpha Beta Pads: The 30-Second Skincare Step That Replaces 3 Products

Posted by Accelerated Aesthetics on

If you could only add one product to your skincare routine, one that exfoliates, refines pores, brightens tone, smooths texture, and preps your skin to absorb everything else better, it would be an alpha beta exfoliating pad. And if you have been relying on a physical scrub or skipping exfoliation altogether, this is going to change how you think about your routine.

At Accelerated Aesthetics, Alpha Beta Pads are one of our most consistently reordered products. Once clients understand what they actually do and how to use them, it is easy to see why.

What Are Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids?

Alpha Hydroxy Acids, or AHAs, are water-soluble acids derived from natural sources like sugarcane and milk. They work on the surface of the skin, dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells to accelerate cell turnover. The result is brighter, smoother, more even-toned skin. AHAs are particularly effective for sun damage and hyperpigmentation, fine lines and surface texture, dull or uneven skin tone, and dry or dehydrated skin.

Beta Hydroxy Acids, or BHAs, are oil-soluble acids, most notably salicylic acid. Because they are oil-soluble, BHAs can actually penetrate into the pore lining and dissolve the sebum and debris that cause congestion, blackheads, and breakouts. BHAs work especially well for enlarged and congested pores, blackheads and whiteheads, acne-prone or oily skin, and rough bumpy texture.

Combined in one pad, AHAs and BHAs address virtually every surface-level skin concern simultaneously, which is why this is one of the most efficient single steps you can add to your routine.

What Makes Medical-Grade Alpha Beta Pads Different?

Not all exfoliating pads are created equal. The difference between a drugstore AHA toner and a medical-grade alpha beta pad comes down to concentration and formulation. Drugstore products are limited in how much active acid they can include, and they are often buffered so heavily to avoid irritation complaints that the active concentration becomes ineffective.

Medical-grade Alpha Beta Pads deliver clinically effective acid concentrations that actually resurface the skin rather than just sitting on top of it. They contain a balanced AHA and BHA ratio optimized for efficacy without unnecessary irritation, along with additional skin-supporting ingredients to maintain the skin barrier while the acids work. The result is meaningful exfoliation you can actually see and feel.

How to Use Alpha Beta Pads

Start with two to three nights per week and increase frequency as your skin adjusts. Use them in the evenings only because AHAs increase photosensitivity and morning use without immediate sunscreen application can increase sun damage risk. Evening use lets the acids work overnight and gives skin time to settle before morning sun exposure.

The process is simple. Cleanse your face first, then swipe one pad across the face, neck, and décolletage while avoiding the eye area. Let it dry for 60 to 90 seconds, then follow with your Night Renewal Moisturizer. A mild tingling is completely normal, especially in the first few uses, and indicates the acids are active. Significant burning or stinging is not normal so reduce frequency if that happens.

What Alpha Beta Pads Replace in Your Routine

This is where clients are consistently surprised. One well-formulated alpha beta pad effectively replaces three separate products. It replaces a physical scrub because mechanical exfoliation with scrubs or brushes can create micro-tears in the skin and cause more harm than good, especially on aging or sensitized skin. Chemical exfoliation is gentler, more even, and more effective. It replaces a pore-minimizing toner because BHAs do more for pore size and congestion than any toner on the market. And it replaces a standalone brightening treatment because AHAs accelerate cell turnover and fade hyperpigmentation more reliably than most dedicated brightening products.

Three products replaced. One step. Thirty seconds.

Who Should Use Alpha Beta Pads?

Almost everyone can benefit, but with some nuances. They are an excellent choice for clients with sun damage, dark spots, or uneven tone, anyone with enlarged pores or congestion, skin that looks dull or feels rough, clients who want to maintain and extend their chemical peel or microneedling results between appointments, and anyone who has never consistently exfoliated.

Hold off on using them in the first week after any resurfacing treatment including microneedling, laser, or chemical peel and wait until your skin has fully healed. If you are currently using a prescription retinoid, use the pads on alternating nights rather than the same night.

Never Run Out with Auto-Shipment

Alpha Beta Pads work best when used consistently over time. The clients who see the most dramatic improvement in tone, texture, and pore size are the ones who use them regularly. The easiest way to stay consistent is to set up auto-shipment so you never run out. Choose your delivery frequency and your pads arrive before you need them with no gaps and no backsliding on progress.
